portraits

This project was to capture real emotion in the model's face. The project was to capture every a none posed expression that projects a sad face or a face that is deep in thought. certain photos may portray happiness, but in order to portray that emotion the model must actually be smiling or laughing naturally. The point of this picture was to not capture the "say cheese" picture. the say cheese picture is a posed picture that the photographer puts close to no effort into.

  1. I think you did a great job of capturing honest expressions from each of your subjects. I particularly like the last photo because even though you have a very similar one before it, this one exactly depicts Zach's stern face, as if he is looking and waiting for the truth to be told to him.

  2. I really liked this set. You captured your subjects' genuine feelings, as they all seem to be unstressed/unforced facial expressions, which is what we wanted.

  4. Really nice photos Max. I especially admire the way you got up close and direct with your models, depicting in their expressions, an effortless and personal connection. My favorite photo of yours was the one of Josh. I like the deep expression and pain that are depicted in his eyes and the creases on his face.

  5. Good work Max! I really like the way you've incorporated Richard Avedon's technique in this black and white series. I really like the second to last portrait in this series because it shows your understanding of demonstrating emotion through changes in facial expression. I would try to focus your next draft, on the same type of emotion presented in that second to last image.
